World Cleanup Day

Save the date for World Cleanup Day: Saturday 15 September 2018 – Be part of the biggest civic action in human history!

In recent years, illegal dumping has become common in our community and has claimed many public spaces. These dump-sites are not only an eyesore but pose a health hazard to people in the vicinity. A community’s environment is meant to encourage growth and benefit the well-being of its people. The World Cleanup Day may just be the start of our community’s journey to being a dump free zone.

World Cleanup Day is a first-of-its-kind initiative founded by Let’s Do It! World. Let’s Do it! World is a global civic movement aimed at connecting and empowering people and organisations around the world to make the planet waste free. Their goal is to unite against illegal waste, organising a one-day global cleanup on the 15th of September 2018. The cleanup brings together 150 countries for one cause – a clean world.

However, Let’s Do It! World is not only about cleaning up waste. Like Love Where You Live, they aim to raise awareness and implement true change to achieve a clean and healthy planet! Love Where You Live would like Laudium to join the millions of volunteers as we unite to clean the world in a single day!

The community belongs to all of us and although there are those who harm our environment, there are hundreds more who love and respect it. Our environment is in need of care and we are the only ones that can help heal it. Challenge yourself to take a stand against illegal dumping in our area and help send out a clear message that it won’t be tolerated any longer.

Date: Saturday, 15 September 2018. Time: 9am – 11am.
Venues: Multiple illegal dumping sites in Laudium. See sign-up sheet for allocated sites

Sign yourself or your team up at: .
Gloves and bin bags will be provided. Please bring a shovel and/or rake if you have one.

Follow us on social media as we share updates on the plan for the day. Spread the word, and together, let’s claim back our lovely community!

Ferdinando’s in Lower Main Road is accepting donations of pasta and tinned tomatoes every week.

We cook on Wednesdays during the day and serve at St. Michael’s church just down the road at 6pm.

Volunteers who want to help with service while engaging with the people who live on the street can arrive at St Michael’s at 5.45pm.

Early arrivals to help with cooking come from 4pm onwards.

People who want to donate can drop off at Ferdinando’s Pizza any time besides Sunday and Monday or at Easi Print next door if we are out.

Tree Care

They need to be reinforced with stronger supports since they have grown much bigger and the winds have been quite strong, which caused some of them to fall over.
Remember that their survival for future generations can only be ensured if we take steps now to keep them happy and healthy, so come and join us! 440 little ones need our love and care. 💚🌳
If you have any suggestions of where we can get some inexpensive wooden stakes to hold the trees up, please let us know!
We are aware that the growth of grass and other plants have taken over the area, but the council division that manages parks have assured us that they will be cutting the grass as soon as they get their machinery back.
