Mandela Day 2024 with James House Child & Youth Care Centre, Cape Town

This year our Mandela Day outing with James House Child & Youth Care Centre took place during sunny November. The learners and staff from James House had a fantastic day touring the Cape Peninsula on the City Sightseeing Red Bus, discovering the beauty and history of their own city. We experienced breath-taking views at Signal Hill, the ocean breeze at Camps Bay Beach and Seapoint, and ended the afternoon with a visit to The World of Birds. Each moment was a chance for these children to experience Cape Town through new eyes.

The generosity of the donors who made this day possible by sponsoring the trip, gift packs, and groceries has left a lasting impact, reminding us all of the power of community support. James House expressed their deep gratitude for the continuous love and care that makes days like these possible. Witnessing the joy and excitement of the children was a privilege, and it was a humbling reminder of the difference we can make in each other’s lives. This initiative was not just an outing; it was a chance to spark hope, inspire dreams, and offer a brighter future to children who deserve it.  Great effort from project leader Rucita Vassen & team of volunteers.

Christmas with the Lansdowne Homeless Community, Cape Town

Our objective was to share the joy of Christmas and make the community feel loved and cared for.  We created a special Christmas for the homeless community by making them a meal and gifting them non-perishable food items. To share the joy of Christmas and uplift the spirits of others, we organised a special Christmas Day Lunch for the homeless community in Lansdowne.

Volunteers assisted by making 120 meals of soya macaroni bolognaise. We were able to give each person a meal, cool drink, cake, biscuits, sweets and a grocery pack of non-perishable foods. The community were very grateful for the meal and food parcels they received. They were hugely appreciative of all the volunteers who made them feel so special on Christmas Day.  The community expressed how grateful they were for all our efforts and for taking the time to make the day a memorable one for them.

Volunteers also expressed how meaningful and heart-warming it felt to cook for the homeless and spend Christmas giving back to those less fortunate. We are deeply grateful for everyone’s generosity, kindness and enthusiasm that made this event possible.. Hats off to project leader Viveka Vassen  & team of volunteers.
